OpenSolaris as base system for Glassfish server?

Folks;
we are in the midst of wanting one of our glassfish / Java EE application servers to be moved to an OpenSolaris installment, mainly for the sake of playing around with it and figuring out how it does. Question, so far: I installed OS 2008.5 using the downloadable ISO / Live CD. Does this installation qualify as a "server" platform? If not, which OpenSolaris distribution / installation set should I get for this purpose?
Thanks in advance for your help, best regards. K.

Unfortunatelly I have to say - if you really want to be sure that your system will be stable (from many perspectives - mean time between necessary upgrades, patching, ..) the highest probability to get there will definitelly give you "regular" Solaris 10 - latest update. So go for downloading S10 and if possible subscribe for support.
Since there are no patches for OpenSolaris (2008.5, SXDE, SXCE,..) and their life cycle really differs from S10, you might be pushed to update your system regularilly (more or less frequently). Even thought the OpenSolaris beheves pretty stable, there might be still some hidden issues which can (I really mean only "can" not "will") hit you. Currently the OpenSolaris has been more focussing on providing desktop (2008.5), development platform (2008.5, SXDE) and high-tech toy for everybody (2008.5, SXCE).
Hope, you'll enjoy the taste of any of them.
Have a nice day,

Jan;
first off, thanks a bunch for your comment on that.

Okay I will have a look at it and give it a try then. Given it mainly aims at being a development / "sandbox" system for the next couple of months at least, maybe I'll start over using OpenSolaris and switch the S10 as soon as things get "productive". By the way is there a list of differences available comparing OS and S10? Does S10 especially have things like IPS, Zones or ZFS available already? These features are what makes us consider moving at least part of our Linux server environment over to Solaris, even though I am sure we'll find some more reasons as soon as we're there. ;)
Thanks anyway, best regards, Kristian

Solaris 10 has Zones, zfs (although not root/boot) and the package system is sysv.
I think actually the most up to date development environment is Solaris Express Community Edition and that is quite stable too, at least for development.
