I just installed opensolaris 2009.6 64 bit version today. When it started to install from the CD I started hearing a loud noise coming from my laptop. I am thinking that it is a driver issue. Even when I take out the cd and run opensolaris it still has the loud noise. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can you try muting your mic (in your BIOS) - I have noticed that issue on my Dell Laptop too - its the feedback loop noise (mic->speakear->mic feedback). That worked for me.

[nobr]Hi, Append '-B disable-audiohd=true' to your grub. Cheers, Steven On Mon, Jun 22, 2009 at 12:38 AM, parthasarathi susarla <Parthasarathi dot Susarla at sun dot com> wrote:

I tried to append my grub file and it did not work.
I placed -B disable-audio-hd=true and the end of the kernel statement.
Any suggestions?

The problem is because of the on-board mic. Like i mentioned earlier, you need to try muting your on-board microphone in your bios settings. And that should help. You will be able to use your on board speakers. But for the mic you will have to use an external microphone connected to your microphone jack.

Partha, I was unable to disable the MIC in the bios. I am not sure where to disable the mic at. Once I login to my opensolaris OS I was able to uncheck the built-in speakers and the noise stopped. But every time I reboot it does not save the settings. Any suggestions?
