To Alfred or anyone:

I just installed the Firefox 3.5 'contrib' build for Solaris 10 on a
Solaris 10 10/08 system (SunBlade 100, 2 GB RAM). It's crashing on me:

It also fails in exactly the same way on an older Ultra 5+ (same OS
release), but I thought that was because it had too little memory so I
tested it out on the Blade 100 with the same result.

I installed the contrib build of Firefox 3.5 (rc3) on a Blade 150 running Solaris 10 u3 (11/06) for sparc. It has been a crashing NIGHTMARE. After about 20 tries, I could not price out a system on alienware.com. That is a complex site, but FX 3.5 would crash every time when adjusting an item in the shopping cart. I had to go back to 3.0.11, which worked fine.

If the developers of the build (Sun Beijing team?) want core dump or other info to help diagnose the problem, please let me know.

Barnaby,

Can you try our Firefox 3.5 release build
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/3.5/contrib/?
and please send us the stack.

Which add-ons do you installed?

Thanks

Brian

Using 3.5, just going to www.hp.com will crash Firefox every time. Safe mode will prevent crashing, but even if all the "safe" options are made permanent, FF will crash again. Another thread gives the java plugin as the problem, but I cannot duplicate that. 3.5 is nightmarish on Solaris 10 u3 so far.

Creating an entirely new profile and removing all plugins do not stop the Segmentation Fault. Safe mode is the only way I can find to stop the crashing.

Barnaby,

Thanks for reporting this.
It seems it's a bug in new JS engine.
You can set "javascript.options.jit.content" to false in about:config
for a workaround.

Thanks,

Ginn

Dear Brian and Ginn,

Thank you for your reply.

Is that build different from the 3.5 sparc build (rc3) available on the mozilla ftp site (http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/contrib/solaris_tarball/)? Put another way, has the Sun Beijing Team released more than one sparc build of FF 3.5?

I'll send the stack soon.

Thank you for the workaround for the JS engine bug, Ginn! Will that bug be fixed in a new release of 3.5, or should we wait for 3.5.1?

Installed add-ons:

Better Privacy 1.29
Mostly crystal 3.5
CrystalFox Qute 3.7
Adblock Plus 1.0.2
ColorfulTabs 3.9.2
Gmail gspace 0.5.99
Googlebar Lite 4.6.9
Quicknote 0.6.0.4

Plugins:

Java 1.5.0_19-b02
Flash 10.0.22.87
RealPlayer 10
Adobe Reader 8.1.4

Best regards,
Barnaby

The best way to get Mozilla releases and builds is via the OpenSolaris
site:
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/desktop/communities/mozilla/development/

The downloads are counted and they always point to the latest
available ;-)

Hi Barnaby,

Thanks for your help.

We have fixed the issue yesterday.
See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=502584

We will make it into Firefox 3.5.1.

Thanks,

Ginn

Hi Ginn,

FANTASTIC!!!!!! That was quick! Good work. Many thanks to you and the rest of the SBT for a great product!

Do you have any idea if and when the libraries required by FX 3+ will be incorporated into Solaris 10? Are they already in OpenSolaris? For sparc, it is amazing how much faster Flash animations run in the Sun Mozilla and FX 2 browsers compared to the FX 3+ browsers.

Best regards,
Sparcman

Firefox 3 will be in S10U8.

Firefox 3 is in OpenSolaris 2008.11.
Firefox 3.5 is in OpenSolaris 2009.06.
