hey ...

I just tripped over this today. Two CommunityOne's: one in SF and one in NY:
http://developers.sun.com/events/communityone/

Anyone know what the "one" bit means in CommunityOne? I have no clue.
Anyway, check it out and I hope to see you guys at at least one of these
conferences next year ...

Jim

I've always thought it was an allusion to Airforce One[1], indicating
leadership and primacy.

And here I thought it had something to do with "community" ... :)

You asked about the "One" part. Taken together I read it to indicate
"the place everyone gets together and exhibits the key features of a
great community of communities."

I think it's a throwback to when all of Sun's developer tools were
something ONE (e.g., Studio ONE), where ONE was an acronym for Open
Net Environment. This was back in the Solaris 9 days.

Ok, I remember ONE now. That`s right around when I came to Sun --
2000-ish. So long ago ... :)

CommunityOne is simply a play off JavaOne, which pre-dates the Sun ONE
branding I and many others here had the opportunity to live through.
Not sure why the One in JavaOne was chosen, though I suspect there are
multiple opinions on that... :)

JavaOne was so named in 1996, and CommunityOne grew out of that in the
last 3 years, so that can't be the explanation.
