1. Network interface vanity names Clearview will deliver the ability to choose flexible names for all network interfaces. Administrators will have the option of assigning names to network interfaces, making the transfer of network configuration information from system to system or zone to zone easier. This also facilitates network configuration when replacing network related hardware. 2. IPMP network interface Clearview will deliver a new network interface abstraction to represent an IPMP group. This will allow administrators to observe the IP packets being sent and received by all interfaces that comprise the group, and will serve as a stable interface for IP addresses being managed by the IPMP group. This will also enable DHCP to assign IP addresses to IPMP groups. 3. IP tunnel device An IP tunnel device will be created. It will export a full DLPI interface to administrators, allowing for full observability into tunneled packets. It will also allow for use of DHCP. 4. IP observability devices Clearview will deliver network devices that provide observability into all IP protocol communication. This will enable the observability of packets sent through the traditional loopback interface, to arbitrary local IP addresses, and sent between Solaris Zones on the same system. It will also allow observability of IP communication relating to a zone from within that zone. 5. Generic VLAN support Clearview will implement the configuration of VLANs for all Ethernet drivers. The configuration of VLANs for all drivers will be done either automatically (on-demand), or through the dladm command.
