St. Louis OpenSolaris User Group – STLOSUG

About Us

The St. Louis OpenSolaris User Group brings together everyone in the St. Louis metro area who's interested in learning more about the OpenSolaris and Solaris operating systems. Whether you're new to OpenSolaris or a seasoned sysadmin, a developer, or simply a curious computer user, we encourage you to join us.

STLOSUG is a SIG (special interest group) affiliated with the St. Louis UNIX Users Group.

Topic: OpenSolaris Developer HOWTO

This month, our guest speaker is Steven Stallion, who is one of the developers of Solaris ON (the core of Solaris, "OS/Networking"). Steve will:

• Review the basics of setting up a workspace and cloning the mercurial repository.
• The differences between SXCE and Indiana builds and how that affects ON development.
• Introduce and install tools needed to build and install ON.
• How to compile the nightly and non-nightly builds.
• How to install a new kernel using cap-eye-install.
• How to get F/OSS packages onto solaris, as well as how to build and install your own.

The St. Louis OpenSolaris Users Group meets on the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are in the same building as the Sun Microsystems office, on the second floor. Parking is available in the garage immediately east of the building.

The meeting will begin at 5:00 pm with Open Forum/Q&A. The evening's program presentation will begin at 5:30 pm. Refreshments will be served.
