Distribution Constructor Requirements Doc
(Spring 2008 release)
Main Goal:
To create a usable Solaris distribution.
Requirements:
Will accept a manifest file containing content and configuration information as input.
Will create x86 distributions
Will have the ability to create 32 and/or 64 bit distributions
Will provide the mechanisms and interfaces necessary for users to create their own customized image specific plugins
Will provide the plugins to create x86 based slim live CD and usb distributions.
Will share code with the installer where possible
Will provide a mechanism to specify the default locale of the distribution (pending investigation)
Desirables:
GUI
Provide some predefined “useful” manifests
Create an area on the web anyone can place useful manifests and images.
Creation of an easy to use debug environment for the distribution
“safe” environment
Non-Requirements:
Will not create sparc distributions
Will not support custom branding
Will not support any packaging system other than IPS.
