The DHCPv6 Client project has updated the existing DHCP client (dhcpagent) in Solaris to support basic RFC 3315 functionality. This includes Neighbor Discovery Protocol / Router Advertisement interaction, dhcpinfo updates to retrieve option data, ifconfig controls, and snoop updates.

The project does not aim to provide DHCPv6 server or relay agent functionality in Solaris, nor will it provide substantial support for other RFCs or experimental options. It will not include authentication or temporary address support.

A high-level design document discussing the overall protocol and interface issues is available.

PSARC case 2006/597 was approved November 10th, 2006. Due to broken links in the ARC publishing mechanism, you'll need to download the materials separately.

A detailed design document is also available and has been updated with comments from design review.

A webrev is still available for code review. Review comments were originally requested by 11 January 2007. A summary of the issues discovered during review is also available. The project integrated into Nevada build 57.

Discussion of this project takes place on the existing networking-discuss@opensolaris.org mailing list.
