SAM-QFS Open Sourced | 03/18/2008

We are please to announce that we have open sourced the SAM-QFS code! This major contribution to the OpenSolaris community is now available for download with additional information at http://blogs.sun.com/samqfs. We are very excited to take this big step in creating an open source community around SAM-QFS and continuing to grow Open Solaris as a premier storage OS.

libsam code released as open source | 06/05/2007

Designed to use with Sun StorageTek Storage Archive Manager (SAM) or Sun StorageTek QFS software, the libsam library/API allows you to manage data in a “samfs” file system from within an application program.

Sun StorageTek SAM provides data management that goes beyond backup. It overcomes the three inherent problems of traditional backup software: the need for a backup window, the time consumed to restore the data, and the amount of expensive resources required (storage, network, tape, and administration).
