 Quotes from Previous GSoC Years

"Having a talented student taking an application from one to 16 threads was an adventure. Delivering a 1,100% performance improvement was simply amazing" - Rob Giltrap, 2007

"Seeing my name and my project mentioned on a couple of the ZFS developer's blogs. That was very cool" - Ricardo Correia, 2006

"I really enjoyed Google Summer of Code. Darren J Moffat (my mentor) helped me a lot to setup my system configuration to be able to provide my own code to the OpenSolaris kernel" - Nicolai Johannes, 2006

This project manages the OpenSolaris involvement in the annual Google Summer of Code™ program, giving students an opportunity to take on projects under guidance, and contribute code. The OpenSolaris community had hoped to again be involved in the program for 2008, and we have an excellent line up of project suggestions to get your teeth into! However we weren't selected for 2008.

Get Involved!

To get a better idea about the program, we thoroughly recommend reading the Summer of Code FAQ. It answers many of the questions you may have; from who can participate, to how long the program lasts and what is involved. On top of this, there is some great advice for students. We are just in the process of submitting an organizational application for this years projects, along with suggestions for potential projects for students to tackle, we encourage students to come up with new proposals, or variations on the current suggestions. You are equally responsible for making the Summer of Code program what it is!

If you would like to act as a mentor, there is some equally great advice for mentors.

Everyone interested in being involved, both students and mentors, should join the Summer of Code mailing list!
